...And I'm short of breath and having some not-so-insignificant chest pain. This is, of course, nothing new for me-- I was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (or "HOCM," hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy) in 2004. Medications have not really helped and my symptoms have been worsening for the last few years, so I have come to Cleveland to have a septal myectomy. The good news is that the shortness of breath and chest pain will hopefully be a thing of the past. The bad news is that I am nervous about the surgery and especially the recovery.
I hope to keep this blog updated with my progress, how I am able to do things that I have not done in years-- hiking, biking, skiing, and all the other things I've wished I could still do.
Surgery is scheduled at the Cleveland Clinic tomorrow. I have to report there at 0515, so now I am off to scrub with Hibiclens, gargle with Listerine, and put Bactroban ointment in my nose. Whee.
